This autumn, the Enforcement Conduct Board (ECB) is due to implement a new set of National Standards to establish clear expectations for enforcement agents and firms across England and Wales.

The consultation is now live and the ECB is gathering views and feedback on its proposed standards as well as its operational model and accreditation framework.

How to provide feedback

The ECB consultation paper can be downloaded here and includes a number of questions relating to the content.

Responses should be sent by email to contact@enforcementconductboard.org by the deadline of 5pm on 13 September 2024.

Why are the standards changing?

As the independent overseeing body of the debt enforcement sector, the ECB works to ensure that people experiencing enforcement action are protected from poor practices.

This is an objective shared and supported by Wilson & Roe, and we have been actively assisting the ECB on a number of its ongoing projects.

The ECB’s new standards build on the existing National Standards – introduced by the Ministry of Justice in 2014 – while making improvements to ensure the fair treatment of debtors.

Changes include:

  • Considerations for vulnerability and affordability
  • Incorporation of modern practices introduced since 2014
  • Accountability for enforcement firms as well as individual agents.
